If you've never been to a church service before, or it's been a while, here's a simple guide to what a Sunday morning at Girton Baptist Church looks like — so you can come along without wondering what you're supposed to do.
We want you to feel at ease when you come. Please choose a seat when you arrive. Usually there is some chatting before the service starts. There’s no dress code, though please be thoughtful so that everyone feels comfortable.
The morning service starts at 10:30am and usually lasts between 60-75minutes. It's a mix of:
Children are welcome and usually stay in the service under the supervision of their parents. But we can provide colouring and other quiet activities for them.
On the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month we share communion. Bread and individual cups are passed round the church as a way of remembering Jesus' death and resurrection. We have an open communion policy which means anyone is free to participate. But if you're unsure, not ready, or simply don't want to take communion, just pass the elements along without taking them.
Often on the last Sunday of the month, we have an open service. This is an opportunity for open sharing and we usually find this to be a very encouraging time.
Refreshments are served after the service, which is a relaxed opportunity to chat and get to know people. There's no obligation to stay if you need to get off.
